Ernesto "Che" Guevara (1928-1967) was an Argentine physician who became a key leader of the 1959 Cuban Revolution alongside Fidel Castro. Driven by the widespread poverty he witnessed traveling across South America, he embraced Marxism as the only solution to economic inequality and imperialism. After the revolution, he served in the Cuban government, managing economic reforms and literacy campaigns, before leaving to spark similar socialist uprisings abroad. In 1967, while attempting to lead a guerrilla movement in Bolivia, he was captured by the Bolivian army with CIA assistance and executed at age 39, cementing his legacy as a global symbol of rebellion and anti-imperialism.
