Demolition follows Davis Mitchell, a man who responds to tragedy with detachment instead of grief. After his wife's sudden death, he doesn't cry or collapse - he observes. His emotional emptiness forces him to question whether his marriage, and even his life, was built on genuine feeling or quiet routine.
Davis begins dismantling objects around him, tearing apart appliances, furniture, and eventually entire rooms. This destruction isn't driven by anger, but by the need to understand. By breaking things down to their components, he tries to make sense of what was real and what was merely functional.
Through his connection with Karen and her son, Davis encounters emotional honesty for the first time. Their presence disrupts his controlled existence, forcing him to confront feelings he spent years suppressing. He begins to experience vulnerability instead of observation.
At its core, Demolition is about rebuilding identity through collapse. It suggests that before something authentic can exist, the illusion of stability must be torn apart. Healing doesn't come from pretending nothing broke
